This Sceptred Isle
Published in Audio CD by BBC Consumer Publishing (02 November, 1998)

** FABULOUS **
I am almost ashamed to admit that the book version of this title sat on my bookshelf for a year, as I thought it would be a very cumbersome read. Recently I picked up a CD version, of the title, from my local library. (There are approximately 10 CD's, each covering approx. 200 years of history). Now I am devouring the book, wondering why I waited so long to read it. I have borrowed & re-borrowed the CD's from the library, & I listen to them at home over & over again. What I particularly like about this title is the way the author refers to contemporary documents relevant to the time in history being covered. Christopher Lee has taken a subject which, in other's hands, can sometimes be flat & 'dry', & he has created a masterpiece. If you have even the slighest interest in history I urge you to either read the print version of the title, or if you can't get your hands on that beg or borrow a copy, in either print, on tape, or on CD. You WON'T be disappointed. I only wish someone would produce a masterpiece of this calibre for 'other' history e.g. French, Italian etc Oh, & BTW, 'This Sceptred Isle - Twentieth Century' has just hit the shelves in Australia. I have already purchased my copy. I expect it will be every bit as good as '55BC - 1901'

The Audio Version
Given sets of these tapes as a holiday gift, I was slowed in my enthusiasm toward the givers. Facing a long drive, with ample entertainment backup, I listened to the first of many tapes. Could history on tape possibly subvert popular culture and current events ? I have now listened to these tapes more than 6 times. The presentation, content, and most of all attitude of the material is addictive. The BBC should be commended again for their quality educational products, and their significant contributions toward restoring the positive reputation of the British people. I HIGHLY recommend purchasing these tapes for yourselves and your children's enlightenment.

Breath-taking!
I was totally captivated! What an incredible, sweeping history, sumptuously written and produced; rich by far in audio than if it were produced on film. Bravo BBC! At one point I even briefly understood the English soccer hooligans - after all, rampaging around the Continent thumping foreigners is only what their predecessors have done for 1000 years! With an incredibly rich and diverse history and an incalculable contribution to the world's culture (hooliganism excepted!), Britons almost have the right to be admired and to be what they are not - arrogant and boastful. We must admire too, their charm, wit and self-effacing modesty. A tip of the hat from California!

Meaning Behind the Mathematical Symbols
This is an extremely good book that contains a series of lectures delivered to lay audience by this great physicist. It reveals the deep meaning behind the mathematical symbols and equations in modern physics. It's incomparable in this regard. The book is very easy to understand. The writing flows smoothly and beautifully. Great metaphors comes out effortlessly, one after another. It is very enjoyable reading.

good book!
This book started me on physics, way way back. I wish it were in print gain.

Space, Time and Gravitation : An Outline of the General Relativity Theory
Published in Paperback by Cambridge University Press (April, 1987)
Author: Arthur S. Eddington
Average review score:

Great learning from one of the greatest of modern astronome
First off, this is the guy who made the famous remark when he was asked "Is it true you are among the three people who understand relativity" and he responded, "I wonder who is the third!". The Astronomer Royal, Eddington was counted on as a very good mathematician by even mathematicians (Hardy for instance) and an even better physicist. He was embroiled (now legend) with Chandrasekhar in the thirties on the quantum mechanics of dying stars. Chandra worked extensively with Eddington and described his writing style in glowing terms.

When he writes, you don't get the feeling of pomp in his style, considering his stature. On the contrary his style is very engaging and leaves you impressed! His mathematical treatment to the relativity is even more accessible!

Fantastic Book!!!!

Trading Post Guidebook: Where to Find the Trading Posts, Galleries, Auctions, Artists, and Museums of the Four Corners Region
Published in Hardcover by Northland Pub (April, 1997)
Authors: Susan Makov and Patrick Eddington
Average review score:

A complete, informative and beautifully illustrated book.
Authors Eddington and Makov give wonderful information on a myriad of places in the Four Corners Region where you can purchase Native American arts and crafts. Beautifully illustrated with hand-tinted photographs, the guidebook not only lists galleries and museums, but also old, authentic trading posts, where maybe the only thing you'll acquire will be a sense of nostalgia for the past. If you're interested in Native American art and craftwork of the Southwest, buy this book and keep it in your car. It will come in very handy.

House of Cards
Published in Audio Cassette by HarperCollins Publishers (26 July, 1993)
Authors: Michael Dobbs and Paul Eddington
Average review score:

Not as colorful as the BBC series
This book is drier than the wonderful BBC series starring Ian Richardson. But because Michael Dobbs spent years as a journalist covering British politics, plot points that are simplified or glossed over in the series are explained in more detail. So I feel like I understand what went on in the TV series more, but it's not as much fun. The book went through some significant changes on the way to the teleplay adaptation.

The best
This is the first in a trilogy that is, perhaps, the best of modern political fiction. The reader can't help but be riveted by the lead character, even hoping for his sinister plots to succeed. Even having seen the BBC television version, I loved the book. It's a great read.

The Best Book EVER
This book is the best one in the collection

The Final Cut
Published in Audio Cassette by HarperCollins Publishers (24 January, 1995)
Authors: Michael Dobbs and Paul Eddington
Average review score:

Best of the trilogy
The third and best installment of the trilogy. The writing is a little laboured, by the plot rattles along. The plot line and developmetn is a lot tighter than the previous two books. The despicable PM is finally seen as the creature of his own making - manipulative, irredeemable, and subject to his own success. Overall, a good, light read into fictional British politics, that doesn't tax the readers intellect or political knoweldge too heavily,

Gassed in the Gulf: The Inside Story of the Pentagon-CIA Cover-up of Gulf War Syndrome
Published in Paperback by iUniverse Publishing Services (01 June, 2000)
Author: Patrick G. Eddington
Average review score:

Telling it like it is
I have just finished reading the book Gassed in the Gulf and it is the only one that I have found that telles like it happened. I do not know where the person from Ohio was but I was in the Gulf 90-91. Even the DOD said that it was not a sonic boom over our camp at Al Jubyl. Not when within 20 seconds of the explosion your face goes numb (Page 73 of book that was me, Fred Willoughby The book is right on what happened. It is well told andd the CIA and DOD are still doing all they can to keep this from becoming a big seller. It should be mandatory reading for everyone thinking about going into the service. Really enjoyed the book. Thank you Pat Eddington for trying to help us Vets.

Of Fierce Compassion and Gritty Integrity
I'm a longtime reader of intelligence-related books. I have a serious interest in how the most secret parts of our government work or don't work.

Patrick Eddington has written a book that makes me feel like I'm on the inside, walking the halls of Langley, meeting disappointments and frustrations, denials and evasions at every turn. This is not a dry expose of government misdeeds. This book presents, in active, personal narrative, the journey from discovery to action to reaction to confrontation to breaking past the wall of CIA and DOD denials of the chemical exposure of our Gulf War veterans. You watch Patrick and his wife experience career blockages when they try to pursue the truth.

You might think a book like this would be depressing. But it's rather energizing. Full of first-hand knowledge as well as documents (some printed in full at the back of the book,) this is one of those rare books that inspires and empowers. For as frustrating as it is to see high level people in the government making the worse choice at every fork, there is also the beauty of seeing Patrick and his wife braving the storm in the hopes of helping those who would have given their lives to protect the rest of us. I don't mean to play down the hard data he presents to make his argument, but what makes the book a fasinating read is the narrative of the personal events along the way. It's a story of fierce compassion, gritty integrity and an honest-to-goodness commitment to doing the right thing. How refreshing!

One of the most important books about the Gulf War
This is one of the most important books about the Gulf War.

Pat Eddington tells the story in this book of his and his wife's odyssey within the CIA, working to adjust official policy to reflect the actual facts on the ground. Unfortunately, truth was one of the first casualties of the Gulf War.

Interviewing veterans, including key source documents and detailing the shameful way the government dealt with returning veterans of the Gulf War, Eddington reveals a different side of Washington -- a Washington that waves flags in time of war but hides behind accountants when the warriors secure peace.

Let us hope those deployed in the future are treated better. As a long-time activist on behalf of veterans and the author of an upcoming novel on the Gulf War (Prayer at Rumayla: A Novel of the Gulf War) I offer thanks to Pat and Robin Eddington for their dedication on behalf of our country and its defenders.
